Was there CGI in Star Wars, I could have sworn that is was all model,
camera tricks celluloid pastes maybe the light sabers?.

The term "blockbuster" and the obsession therein predates Star Wars by at
least 50 years, came big in WW II

 ... and this is a bad thing to target a large audience?

I believe Chewbacca said it best when he said " RRRRROOAWWWWEEERR".
brought a tear to my eye anyways ;)
