alright, i'll accept partial blame on this one. i'm good at stepping on
toes. my moma told me i should excel in something... and no, i'm not
hurt *too* much... ;{)}

so i'll try to do better, eh?

now on to otr banter...

>saw Linford in a pool hall the other night sporting a new tattoo...a

is this really true or was it a dream? for some reason i just can't
picture linford with a tatoo on his neck. much less in biker gear. maybe
he was trying out a new disguise to hide his superstar status and was
miffed that you found him out.

i can imagine him in a pool hall, though. but the tattoo...? i'll have
to see that one to believe it. although you can do a lot with a bic pen
these days...

i'm beginning to pity poor linford because of this. i mean, how many
times a day does he hear this question? i'd get annoyed by it, most
certainly. sure, i'm waiting just as much as everyman's daughter for new
material, but i'm *waiting*. it's time to pull out Patience again. as a
writer i now how frustrating it is not to have a steady stream of ideas
flowing every single day. maybe linford's in a dry spell and needs some
time to give his brain a rest with all the recent events which have
walked through, and out of, otr's door.

i'm also worried that when they *do* finally release another album, many
people will complain that it's "not like the old days." of course not,
these are new days. i love every single album otr has released. there
is something differently beautiful and astonishing with each new release.
TWHF is different from Patience which is different from Eve which is
majorly different from GDBD.... etc. etc. etc. whatever. i would
probably become bored with otr if every album had remained the same as
the one before it, which is one reason why i am so enthralled with the
simple richness of GDBD. it doesn't NEED any studio tricks to make it a
strong album. each album represents a separate mood to me, and GDBD is
just as rich a mood as anything else they've put out. it's just at the
opposite swing of the pendelum. but that doesn't mean i love any other
album any less or more. but i am looking forward to whatever new
direction the band is heading. even if ric and mike are no longer with
the group.

every band needs to be allowed the space to grow and explore new musical
teritory. if linford produces an over the rhine polka album, i'll be the
first one to buy it, excited to see what twist he's put underneath the
breathing of an accordion. what i'm saying is this, i'm willing to wait
as long as it takes for otr to release a new album because the length of
time it takes them to put out something new will allow them the time to
make sure every track is as beautiful and rich as can be. even if it
sounds nothing like Patience or Eve. it will still be good to me,
because they took the time to make it good. i don't think linford wants
to release anything until he's sure it's worthy of being released. i
don't blame him in the least.

so here's an interesting question i pose to all of you who are eager to
see something new in print:

what would you do if suddenly linford decided to leave and over the rhine
was no more?

would life still be worth living?
