DJT's 10 favorite songs (yes, OtR content)

My list:

1. Kevin Moore "Space-Dye Vest" found on Dream
Theater's _Awake_ album and Kevin Moore's
_Music Meant To Be Heard_ demos. The most
  emotionally-charged and lushly-solitary
music. My favorite song of all-time.

2. Extreme "Everything Under the Sun" found on
Extreme's _III Sides to Every Story_. A 23-
minute epic which follows a King Solomon
take on life. Quite ecclesiastical, and superb
arrangements and backing vocals my Nuno
  Bettencourt.

3. Over the Rhine "If I'm Drowning" found on
Over the Rhine's _Till We Have Faces_. Their
essential song, IMO. Part of what got me hooked.

and the rest not in order, and bound to fluxuate.

D. Chroma Key "On the Page" found on Chroma Key's
_Dead Air For Radios_ album. A modern rock and
  progressive masterpiece, without being wanky.
Emotional, yet surreal, filled with samples and
superb drums by Mark Zonder and key/vocals by
Kevin Moore. Outside of "Space-Dye Vest," some
  of Kevin Moore's best songwriting.

E. Caedmon's Call "Not Enough" found on Caedmon's
Call's _My Calm//Your Storm_ and their eponymous
Warner Alliance debut. Shows the depravity of
man, the seeking yet failing of Icarus, and a
  great tag-team vocal approach.

F. Dream Theater "Metropolis Part 1: The Mircale
and the Sleeper" found on Dream Theater's _Images
and Words_ album. An epic from start to finish.
Chills run down my spine if I hear the moody guitar
and cymbal intro out in public. Truly an amazing
  work.

G. Steve Taylor "Since I Gave Up Hope I Feel A Lot
Better" found on Steve Taylor's _I Predict 1990_
album. The title says it all, as Steve weaves a
  genious satrical masterpiece.

H. Tool "Reflection" found on Tool's _Lateralus_
album. This band defines an extreme amount of
beauty in the dark moody metal passages of all of
their music. There are many more songs like this
  in their catalogue.

I. Radiohead "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" found on
Radiohead's _The Bends_ album. One of my favorite
band's best ending to an album. This song is
truly rich and beautiful in arrangement.

J. Faith No More "Epic" found on Faith No More's
_The Real Thing_ album. Not my favorite FNM song
even, I don't think, but definitely a classic.
  Rap-metal from a non-rap-metal band before rap-
metal was even a genre. But that's not even why
it's such a great song. It just *is*. It's a
song that doesn't really mean anything to me
lyrically, but it means a lot historically. It's
a song that I associate with part of my teenage
years, but that I still love and dig today. It's
a song that got me into a great band and spin-off
  bands...

honorable: something King's X for sure, Galactic
Cowboys' "Still Life of Peace," Ashley Peacock's
"The First Day," Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, and
many more that have written some superb songs that
are beauty dancing around my ears.
