Top 10 favorite songs (minute OtR content)

Yesterday I asked myself the question "If I could choose 10 songs as my
all-time favorites, what would they be?" (Too much time on my hands
perhaps??)

My judging criteria:
1. Catchiness
2. Singability
3. Memories associated
4. Depth of lyrics
5. Did I buy an entire album just to get this one song? Extra points!!!
6. Highest number of playings on "repeat" mode
7. When I hear it do I stare into space like, on Seinfeld, Elaine's
boyfriend hearing "Desperado" on the radio?

Songs are ranked in order of total playings in my lifetime :)

1. "One" by U2
Commentary: This is my favorite song by my favorite band, on the most
awesome album they've ever done or ever will do, or that may ever be
recorded by any other band EVER :D "Love is a temple, love the higher law"

2. "The One I Love" by REM
Commentary: I love this song so much, I had a dream about it once.
Seriously. "A simple prop to occupy my time"

3. "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town" by Pearl Jam
Commentary: I used to play this song obsessively every summer when college
was out 'cause my sister had it at home. Finally I decided I better buy the
album myself. And I live in a small town. "Memories like fingerprints are
slowly raising"

4. "Friday I'm in Love" by the Cure
Commentary: This was another one I bought the whole album for. But unlike
Pearl Jam "vs." I didn't like hardly any of the other songs on the album.
It's still a big favorite o' mine.

5. "Buddy Holly" by Weezer
Commentary: I didn't buy this album until just this summer. But I would be
driving down the road and just start singing it for no reason. THAT is
catchiness! Plus, the video kicked ass.

6. "Trouble" by Coldplay
Commentary: I saw Coldplay perform this on the BBC music awards and fell in
love instantly. I went around singing it for the next month even though I
didn't know all the words or even the melody line real well. Maybe I should
start my own Coldplay knockoff band??

7. "Imagine" by John Lennon
Commentary: This is one of those timeless songs that people of all different
backgrounds and musical tastes will always love. John Lennon was a genius
and to compare him to Carmen is just sick and wrong :|

8. "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones
Commentary: Another timeless classic! An interesting thing to note is two
other bands on my top ten list have done this song. (U2 at the end of their
live version of "Bad" and the OtR live version on Amateur Shortwave Radio)

9. "Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkel
Commentary: A song that combines two of my favorite topics: love and food!
J/K. . .I grew up on a steady diet of S&G since my parents were big-time
fans of theirs. Even played their music at their wedding! I had to choose
one S&G for my list and this is my favorite one. So haunting.

10. "Within Without" by OtR
Commentary: I had to put an OtR one on my list but choosing one was hard. I
chose this one because I've looped it for hours on end (both original and
hard mix versions).

In closing, I would like to congratulate the winners and let the runners-up
know that even though there wasn't room on my list for all of them, they
still hold a special place in my heart!

Sarah
Yep - too much time on my hands :P
