okay, first of all, i am just using dobson as an example because the quote i
mentioned earlier had to do with him. secondly, what you said above is what i
think one of the main problems is with the way christians deal with a lot of
things. you said that dobson oppose murder and adultery and homosexUALS.
which one of these is not like the other???? if he opposes homosexualITY
based on a narrow interpretation of scripture, then that is understandable,
but what most christians do is oppose the individual who happens to be gay.
that's not what jesus would do at all.

then christians should stop saying it is!!!! i am going to blow up this
clinic in the name of god!!! i am going to kill you for not believing in the
name of god!!! i am going to picket the funerals of aids victims in the name
of god!!!
and the ignorant masses listen to these leaders. you get yourself in charge
of a church and people think you have a direct line to the truth and they
believe and follow whatever you say and do because you are doing it in the
name of god. i fully believe that there are some sincere men and women out
there who are just trying to serve a god they honestly believe in, but there
are some idiots out there doing exact opposite things in the name of the same
god. and it is the radicals who attract the attention of the masses....etc.
and the cycle goes on.

i disagree. i think the process should go in a different order. i think that
one should decide for herself whether she thinks a particular thing is right
or wrong. and then she can look at what other people's opinions are (in holy
texts, on the otr list, whatever) and say "oh! that jan girl on the otr list
is so smart. we have the same opinion about issue x. i do not have the same
opinion as holy text y, though, so if it is a requirement of that religion
that i agree with everything in the holy text, then i guess i can't be a
member of that religious group."
and i also disagree with you that it is "pretty obvious" what god thinks. i
mean, there are lots of religions who claim to have *the* holy text of god.
and withing those reliigions, especially christianity, there are hundred of
different sects or denominations or whatever who have a slightly different
interpretation of what their god says. so, no, it's not easy to know what god
thinks.
