In defense of sarah mclachlan

I hardly think sarah "ripped off" OTR...as an avid fan of hers for 4
years, as well as a former voice student (not of hers ;), I can attest to
the growth and change that has occured in Sarah's voice, and it isn't
because she's copying others' music. Her first CD, Touch, reveals the
obvious youth and somewhat timid nature of sarah with music at the time.
As her CDs progressed, you can hear, above all else, the increasing
confidence she gained in her voice and in using it in experimental ways.
I, too, think Surfacing is not her best album, but I do know that her
lyrical styles on it are simply more mature and free versions of what her
voice is. I also know, from my experiences singing and what others have
told me, is that I have a voice style very similar to sarah's. Does that
mean I'm ripping her off? No way jose...I'm just working with what God has
given me :)

PS-and as for the lyrics, there is a vast difference between OTR's and
sarah's...a quick look at ALL of her albums (Not just surfacing) shows
this. :)

PPS-no, this is not a flame. yes, i am a nice person :) a nice person who
happens to be a huge fan of ms. mclachlans :)

"Everyday society is telling us how to act, what to wear,
and who to be so that all the world is a wonderful, elite
group of conformists who are boring as hell. Isn't it about
time you stopped trying so hard and just starting _living_?"
