Re: mp3 rarities
From: Paul Soupiset Subject: Re: mp3 rarities
Chad, I've never done a vine before, let alone a tree or whatever, but I'm
interested in getting the tunes as MP3s, and happy to do a little work to
help others in the same boat. Is there an FAQ as far as explaining the deal
to newbies?
A vine is just a list of people who copy discs created by the vine's
originator for their own use and then mail the originals to the next person
in line. It's a great way to share music, and I've started quite a few of
my own. There are several OtR shows in circulation as vines right now on
Drew's OtR board. This link explains how vines are implemented on the
Cowboy Junkies message board and the OtR forum:

In *this* particular case, the music would be mp3 rather than CD audio
format. Thus you would not need an audio extraction program or even a CD
burner to participate in the Rarities vine, but could simply copy the .mp3
files to your computer from the original CD-ROM and then pass it on.
It will be more difficult signing up for and tracking a vine using an email
list vs. a message board, but I suppose that with diligence and grace all
things are possible.
Many thanks for your efforts Chad, being an OtR newbie I only have a few of
these rarities myself.
Keith from NY
