Yup, don't know the year but it was Lou Reed in the VU that did it.
He also put it on his Rock N Roll Animal album a few years later.

I'm assuming it's the same song. I've never been able to stomach much 
more than the first
few minutes of  NBK. "standing on a corner, suitcase in my hand...."
