--Rabbit Songs--

Perry, I just stumbled across "Rabbit Songs" myself. Whenever I listen, I 
feel like somebody's throwing a warm quilt over my shoulders and rubbing my 
feet. Yeah, they're good! I'm glad you have discovered them, too!

Had the good fortune to see Hem last Tuesday, here in Atlanta. Was struck 
again by the strange symmetry between OtR and Hem. There's the whole 
heartbreaking-passion-for-beauty thing, and also their guitarist, Steve, 
bears a pronounced physical resemblance to Linford. I understand that some 
members of Hem almost went broke during the production of "Rabbit Songs," 
selling off personal possessions so they could afford to have a real 
18-piece orchestra on the record. That reminded me of Over the Rhine, too.

Although Sally Ellyson (their vocalist) has nothing on Karin, I still enjoy 
every minute I spend under her spell. On Tuesday night, when the curtains 
parted and Sally stepped forward to sing, a hush fell over the crowded bar, 
and a honeyed glow soaked into the room as the song slowly unfolded.

It was a really good moment.

Subject: returning listee and a tasty find...

hello everybody. I was once a listee, but found myself mysteriously booted 
over
a year ago. I'm fairly lazy, so I didn't bother to resubscribe. Anywho, I've
been dropping in occasionally to read over your shoulders. Good to know that 
if
I can't meet OTR fans face to face, even in a place like San Francisco,  I 
can
at least go someplace online to connect with a few fellow ravenous fans.
So anywho, I recently stubbed my toe on a CD called Rabbit Songs by the band
Hem. If anyone knows of this wonderful disc, or has info on the band, I'd 
love
to hear it.
Glad to finally be back.
