I think the above did take place. I'm thinking specifically of
geometric shapes of the light fixtures in the family home (ala 2001). To me
this was blatant homage. Being an armchair student of film (at best in my
case) makes it in a way more difficult to evaluate this film because of a
kind of distraction by these questions. Maybe someone a little more
objective (i.e. who hasn't seen and analysed too many Kubric films) could
give us a better perspective. I guess I'm just personally dissappointed
that more people weren't into it (which is why Kubric chose Spielberg to
make what is essentially his baby, I think) and didn't get it because I
think it's a profoundly important film, and perhaps so prophetic that it
won't be fully understood by the masses (if ever) until a future date.

That isn't to say, however, that the ideas weren't profound and mostly

I'm sure there were sci fi guys who wrote of such creatures but I'm just not
fimiliar with any because I'm not really a buff. Do you know of any series
with such a character?
