As a freelance movie critic, I see lots of movies for free, and the ones I
pay for, I write off as business expenses. But in all the moviegoing I
have done, I can think of only two films that have made me feel guilty
just for spending two hours in the theatre -- two films that made me so
guilty I walked out moaning that line of Thoreau's, to the effect that you
cannot kill time without injuring eternity. Those two films were _The
Specialist_ (the Sylvester Stallone / Sharon Stone movie) and _Michael_
(in which John Travolta plays a rather slobby, hedonistic angel).
