Hmmm...perhaps.  Good point.  You may be right about that, but how widely 
will they each be remembered?  How many "Best Picture" winners have faded 
from the larger public consciousness?  What was it that beat "Star Wars" 
anyway??

LoTR:tFotR has all the requisite elements of a "landmark" or "milestone" 
film, as did "Star Wars".  Also, like SW, it is more than a mere movie.  It 
is an indispensible part of popular AND geek culture.  Even uptight 
Christians like it, by Gosh!  SW couldn't always claim that.
