Re: I'll admit I'm dumb

yo yo :)

matt asked about "God" being a title or name...

well, it depends on the intention of the speaker and
understanding created with the hearers.
inter-subjectivity, woo-hoo.

it functions as both. it functions as a general noun
when not capitalized...and saying "Jimi Hendrix is a
God" is not the name 'cause of the indefinite article.
plus, you probably wouldn't capitalize "god" in that
instance anyway with the indefinite article in da
houuuse.

as for taking the lord's name in vain: if you're using
the same (knowingly) term (functioning specifically as
a name) for god that you do in cursing or
inappropriate contexts, you're taking it in vain.
let's say that "butterbean" were what we called god in
our interactions with him etc. for a while. and i
started in with "butterbean damn!" or just
"butterbean," then, yeah.

what if they got it wrong...what if chicken really
tastes like...

the "most high" and the "creator" are still just
euphemistic, so it's hairy for me. you could directly
address god as "most high" or "creator" so i don't
understand why they're any different. do any of the
jewish communities use these honorifics for addressing
god?

i'm with matt...help! teach me somethin' here.

well, i think you guys are so great. this is fun.

i'm also dumb,
j. marie
