Oh, come now! One MUST read "The Hobbit" first!
It's the book that sets up everything for the reader, and establishes the
entire universe of the plot. It's also a damn good read-- when I first
read it some twenty years ago, I couldn't put it down, It was the kind of
book I'd read walking down the street. I can still point out the building
in which I was sitting while reading the part with the barrels floating
downriver.
Read "The Hobbit," too.
