OtR in the workplace

Howdy workers of the world,

At my job, we share a "communal" radio. This thing is a piece of crap,
and has dfficulty playing CDs. One night, sick to death of having to listen
to the contrived, insipid, and corporate-paid-for intonations of the radio,
I desperately ran to my car for my own, personal player. The girls I worked
with responed QUITE NEGATIVELY to FFR, which was the first thing my feverish
and trembling hands saw fit to remove from my wallet. Apparently, anything
containing minor chords is "depressing" and "torture" to people who've been
conditioned by commercial radio to only like certain types of music. (read:
POP) Or immature people. Or chicks with an exra "y" chromosome whose
perception of "alternative" is actually something quite NOT. (That'll learn
me to try to share anything that I hold as dear with just anyone.)
Recently, however, with the advent of the Christmas season (pun
intended), and the skyline turning Bible-black above me, I've been prompted
to bring out "Darkest Knight of the Year". Gosh, that is a captivating
recording. So much so that one of the opticians I work alongside, a lovely,
God-fearing woman named Gay, was instantly swept away by its supreme
majesty. She has, within two days of first hearing but SOME of it, ordered
2 copies (one for her and her sister), and will be receiving a FREE "GDBD".
I'm so excited for her. And jealous...you only discover treasure so often in
this finite yet somehow still abundant life.
So yeah, I've made a new fan, though she probably wouldn't care much
for the brazen tramp that is "Eve".
All this begs two questions: How can people be content going through
life only listening to music that has been selected for them, relying on
souless conglomerates to dictate to them that which is "good"? (I'd rather
be dead.) Have any of you guys had any interestng OtR work-related
experiences? (Besides the person who works for the Christian bookstore who
was told Karin was breathing too heavy.)

Unto us a fan is born,

Orginal Formula Matt

ps- Dear Gay is in charge of our local outreach, which will be supplying the
lost boys of the Sudan with perscription eyewear. These 36 Christian
refugees, having been brought over by Catholic Charities, have already
crossed paths with me once before, at an informal youth service last
September. Small world, truly.
