jg and de-ratting

jg (and db, of course) asked (among other perceptive questions, as usual):
>And whatever happened to Amy, who got changed into a
>rat? Did Willow de-rat her? We never got any Amy closure.

ok. i may be making assumptions, but i'm guessing that i'm the amyjoy
you're talking about, since i did indeed become a rat and pretty much just
stopped talking to all of you. i'm sorry, dear jg! of course, you could
mean another amy entirely (is amy romania still around?), but who else
shares my unconditional love for willow? anyway, you've gotten me to step
out of the shadows again...

all of this planning and potlucking for december makes me sad--especially
because i'm returning the the u.s. five freakin' days after the taft show!
would it have been too much trouble to have booked the taft for one short
week later? oh well. i'll be in the himalayas on december 7. i suppose
it's a decent tradeoff.

onto other listee stuff...i'm a bit behind in reading the digest today, and
i'll freely admit that i've only barely skimmed it for months now. but i
just need to express that reading words of americans suffering from a
"lesser quality of life" due to all of those "foreigners abusing the system"
very nearly made me throw up right here in a bombay internet cafe. who of
us on this list or our ancestors were NOT foreigners in america at one point
in time? i may be considered liberal by some, or a peacenik idealist, but i
do happen to believe in showing some basic respect to others as human
beings. i also am appalled by the arrogance i see and read in the comments
of others. terrorism is wrong and evil. it needs to be stopped. the world
trade center attacks were absolutely tragic and inexcusable. but let's not
forget that each of us has that potential for violence in our human
nature...

ws referred to the american quality of life. i can't help but wonder what
america he is living in...i've been living in india since june.
funny--since i've been here, surrounded by all kinds of oppression and
visible poverty on the streets, i've only come to an increased awareness of
how severe our own problems are in the u.s. really, we're not much
different from the rest of the world in that arena. part of our country
just manages to appear more comfortable. and a large part of our country
chooses to live in ignorance of our own deep oppression and poverty.
granted, some things in the u.s. are much easier than in other countries.
but there a lot of americans who lived in daily fear long before the wtc was
attacked--lots of americans who feared being shot by the police simply
because of their skin or clothing, thousands and thousands of children who
don't know where there next meal is coming from, or if they're going to make
it through the night without getting raped, thousands of women who don't
know if they'll make it through the day without being beaten...and the worst
part of it all to me is that so many of us just ignore it all. at least the
poverty here is india is an honest one--it can't be ignored. people may
choose not to act, but at least they admit it exists.
maybe i'm cynical because i come from a city where the police shoot tear gas
and rubber bullets into peaceful protests on a semi-regualr basis, or
because i work in child protective services when i'm in the u.s.

anyway, sorry for the random, wandering thoughts. i just needed to get them
out even if they don't make sense.

i'm glad that most listees have an appreciation of beauty and redemption.

otr content...to anyone who's been at recent shows--what are your thoughts
on kim taylor, the opening act? i like that girl.

peace and hope,
amyjoy
