Re: Chris

Sorry, Ysoie... As much as I'd like to be forgiving and understanding, Chris'
comment (read just now, since I just got home and checked mail) literally
turned my stomach just as much as the dancing cheering Palestinians. How
utterly utterly heartless.

I live in Maryland, about 30 miles from DC.
I know several people who may or may not have been in the Pentagon.
I don't know yet if they were or were not there/affected/killed.
I probably won't find out if they WERE for quite a while.

The Pentagon employs at least 24,000 people, from what I'm hearing.
It's a major employer of civilians in this area.
Those people are someone's friends, and someone's family.
I'd bet more than half of the people at my office personally know someone who
works there.
My best-friend-at-the-office's father works in the Pentagon. He wasn't
there, and was headed home by the time I left work, but she was frantic until
she learned that.

A very good friend's father is a retired Army General working for FEMA,
helping plan for possible events exactly like this. He lives in WV, but if
there was any (classified) warning about this at all, he might have been in
the Army section of the Pentagon this morning....which is the section that
was destroyed. I have not yet heard one way or another.

I have two friends who work in Manhattan, and several others very close to
them who live in NJ.
I have not heard from them, either.

I am shocked and horrified that anyone could even remotely joke or make any
sort of comment to the effect that Chris did. I realize his sense of humor
is a bit off color most of the time, but this is *way* beyond the pale.

I have not (yet) been personally touched by this tragedy, but the potential
for that remains and the not-knowing is awful. My son's grandmother worked
with a person on one of the planes... and that's close enough.

I hope no one out there reading this has any personal connection to it... I
hope everyone's loved ones are safe and located soon. Even Chris'.

Anita
