so far i'm surprised. Don't know yet if it's in a

Motes is one strange duck: "I reckon you think you're
 redeemed?"
Anyone else familiar with this story? I know there has
to be some O'Connor fans on this list.

I am. Great book. Although it's been many years since I read it so I don't
remember much. I remember being blown away by the Motes character too and all
the contradictions in him. He's don't believe in sin because it will lead him
to Jesus yet he can't shake it because, as Mark Heard said, "we know too
much". He don't want to believe in Christ (what's his churchs name - the
church without Jesus?) but he's constantly running from Him. Didn't he even
buy a car with the hope that he could get away from him? "a man with a good
car don't need redemption" (very rough paraphrase I'm sure) Her first novel I
believe.
Check out "The Violent Bear It Away" too!
Buechner's Leo Bebb stories kinda remind me of O'conner. Ever read them?

and familiar things new. -Samuel Johnson, lexicographer (1709-1784)
