That's the tragic part of it all, yeah. "Reaching" people isn't enough. One
has to consider what the "artist" is reaching people /with/. In Carman's
case, it's a Saturday-morning-cartoon version of Christianity that is
designed to get them hyped up, but will ultimately leave them disillusioned.

You're right - there are a million different definitions for what "art" is.
But it's generally accepted (by most people who care to think about it) that
art should not be manufactured to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
You can call that an opinion, sure, but it's the unwritten rule.

Of course not, but that doesn't make it any less true. And besides, just
because a person indulges a little Carman every now and again doesn't mean
that they have bad taste - simply that they have weakness. <g> The same
might be said about those lunatics who rave about, oh, I dunno, Duran Duran.
<g>

Seriously, everyone has guilty pleasures. Carman is far too tactless and
maudlin to be one of mine, but, as you say, to each his own.

God, I hope just the opposite. Carman is an embarrasment to the faith, and
his version of Christianity is a blow to the realities that Jesus preached.
Unfortunately, you're more likely to get your wish than I am.

Bah. People should always be ready for the truth. People like Carman simply
because he makes them feel good about themselves.

What he does doesn't appeal to me. :)
