Katie Reider & Josh Seurkamp CDs (and Ric Hordinski, Georgin, Zappa...)

i went to (cincinnati's own) Katie Reider's free
show at the joseph-beth booksellers in rookwood
yesterday. she put on a great show, but it was
packed (even more so than the free show she did
there a few months ago). sidenote: she's an indie
artist, no major record deal (Blue Jordan Records
rocks, but it doesn't count for much in the
national distribution game), but she's had two
songs on recent dawson's creek episodes. i've
*never* watched it (nor anything on the WB), but i
think it's kinda cool how recently there's been a
wave of lesser known acts on tv shows (OtR
definitely included)...

anyway, i picked up katie's new "no retakes" live
CD. it's good... i wish there would have been the
live intro to "why" that they do now.

i also picked up percussionist-extraordinaire Josh
Seurkamp's first solo CD entitled "Garden of
Sound." josh is the guy who drums and hits things
for about almost every band in cincinnati (it
seems). at the blue jordan fest, he played with 6
different bands. he's mainly with katie reider
and monk (from what i can tell).

anyway, the CD was produced by ric hordinski.
it's mainly instrumental. katie sings on a few
tracks (not really lyrics, but more
vocalizations). ric, mike georgin, john zappa (no
relation to frank, dweezil, ahmet, or moon), and
dave eberhart also play on most of the tracks.
it's a very pleasant CD, and i hear that it got a
good review in the cincinnati enquirer...

i'd suggest it if you get a chance to purchase it.
it's on blue jordan records as well.
