final words

hello everyone...
well, we have proven again that as a whole, we are incapable of dealing with a
serious issue via the list. since this started, i have received 7 "hate mail"
messages from 5 different people. the nicest one asked me to "take my
diseases and get off the list please" the most recent one said that i was
wrong on one point that i made: "dobson DOES hate all homosexuals, so does
god, so do i." so i must say that it is a little hard for me respond
impartially on this issue, and even though my messages were in response to 3
or 4 specific individuals on the list, my emotions were clouded i am sure by
the "i hate you and so does god" messages. and that was my point (or one of
them) that it is hard to separate everything...
i think you missed one of my points, amy, that layne tried to hone in on. my
point was that there are crazy people that do stuff every day for crazy
reasons--christian and non. i have you, mark, layne, rachel, steve, et all
talking calmly to me in one ear about the issue and jesus and then i have
others telling me i have a disease cuz i am gay and they hate me and all of
them, too, doing it in the name of jesus. who's to say who is right? i think
jesus wouldn't do either according to scripture.
so if we could end this discussion, or take it off the list, i would
appreciate it. please, if you must reply, do it privately.
now for my clarifications...

amy--i don't think i made one point very clear, and it was misinterpreted by
everyone! my bad. i did not mean to say that homosexuality should be looked
at as any worse, better, or even any different than any other sin. what you
said was that dobson opposes murder (an ACT), adultery (an ACT), and
homosexuals (PEOPLE)...that was my point...if that is true (which it appears
to be), then i think the problem lies there. if anyone doesn't approve of
anything i do, then fine. i don't care. but don't oppose ME (an individual
with feelings, arms, legs, and a soul just like yours) just because i do
something you disagree with. i don't recall the bible making any claims about
degrees of sin. in fact, i think the bible says they are all the same in the
eyes of god (unfortunately, though, not in the eyes of humans.) the bible
says the consequences of the sins are different and some more severe, but not
the sins themselves.
amy--have you ever heard anyone tell you that christianity contradicts itself?
i heard that plenty of times--in and out of the church. but christianity has
its answers for those apparent contradictions. god says here i am a man and
god says there i am not a man. well, in one instance that was just god
speaking anthropomorphologically, etc. well, isn't it possible that just like
from the "outside" it appears that christianity contradicts itself, that from
the outside it appears that "the majority" of other religions contradict
themselves but they really don't. i am sure they have answers just like your
religion does.
amy--the rest of the stuff i had to say is petty, and so i am choosing to not
say it. if you want a line by line reply, let me know and i will privately!

steve--sorry for implying that i wasn't for giving dobson his freedom of
speech. i am all for that. all i am saying is that when you are in a
position of power or influence, your words carry a lot of weight, and i agree
with the quote i posted the other day that sometimes the love the sinner part
gets forgotten in hating the sin.
steve--i also apologive for implying that christians are ignorant. that is
not at all what i meant. ignorant means what, uninformed. the masses are
just that, and whenever a new issue comes up (divorce, slavery, women's
rights, civil rights, homosexuality, prohibition, etc.) the masses look to the
leaders to see how they should handle things. that is all i meant. (but it
is okay for you, stevie, to call me an elitist??? and you were the one
talking about the need for consistency the other day...)

layne (and amy, i guess)--i was not trying to say that all christians were
psychos and extremists. not at all. in fact, i said that i was sure there
were some out there who were honestly sincere, but it is hard to know who
represents the true christianity--you or the writers of my hate mail. you all
claim god as your reason for saying what you said.

mark--here we go again. your post upsets me more than anything. you honestly
don't believe that i, a homosexual, deserve the same relationship with god
that you have? plenty of adulterers and murderers and liars and thieves, etc.
sit in your pews and get the opportunity at that same relationship. why can't
i? you don't think there are any affaris happening in your church? wake up.
you don't think any of the single women in your church have had abortions (and
abortion is murder, right?)? wake up.
joe average sinner doesn't have to contend for equal status in the community
because he already has it!! what is it that homosexuals want that is so
bad??? the chance to marry the one they love? the chance to just be known as
an acceptable alternative lifestyle? why does that threaten you so much,
mark? and no one is asking you to agree to anything. i am just saying leave
me the fuck alone and let me live my life without you imposing your morals on
me. i disagree with you on issues of right and wrong. i do. why should i be
held up to your standards? they're not my standards!!!
and you don't condone discrimination, but you don't want gays to have equal
status in the community? hmm... that's a big contradiction there.

okay. i know i have said more than enough. i have never wished more for otr
to put out a new album or do something interesting. can't we do the haiku
thing again?!?!
