didn't fail here Smitty, while I get frustrated too by blanket statements
lumping all musicians who are Christian into one big hairy CCM pop machine I
didn't take your comment that way and actually busted a gut when I read it.
My own term for the mass of poorly done recycled pop spewing from CCM's rear
is "regurgitated Barry Manilow Music"

I've spoken about CCM before as have a number of others so I won't rehash all
that again. I'll just say that much of the criticism is warranted because,
percentage wise, there is a lotta crappola within CCM that, for the most
part, has nothing to do with Christianity as much as it does corporate stuff,
fear of offense, ignorance, etc.. But at the same time there are a minority
of great artists working from within the beast that don't get a hearing
specifically due to preconceptions so Kelvin does have a good point but I
think that as long as we don't leave it there but use it as a way to
disassociate all the crap from the good stuff it can be a serviceable rather
that hurtful way of generalizing. Personally I think the best thing to do is
to do away with labels altogether -- an artist is either good or
bad...period. Or perhaps cognitive dissonance is setting in so I can still
have fun lambasting CCM while at the same time truly loving some of the music
that has it's roots there.

I wrote a not too shabby letter on CCM and Christian musicians back on
03-13-01 if you're interested in some of my thoughts along these lines.
