Re: Besides and ASR
Well, rather than doing *any of the tons of things I **should** be
doing,* I'll respond to this.
Besides:
It's, well, B-sides. My faves off it are ranked here-
1 Last Night. Intelligent, sexy, simple--what more could I ask for?
2 Dead Weight. How utterly melancholy, how utterly true...
3 Miles. Those opening lines, Karin's voice dripping with emotion!
Bothered on Besides is a whole different animal. This has almost become
as divisive on the list as "christian interpretation" once was. I was
weaned on the Eve version with all that lovely Chris Dahlgren upright
bass and the sultry *smoke in my eyes* allusions. The much more subdued
Besides version is good in it's own right, but I just hardly ever visit
that place, IYKWIM. I can remember when Eve first came out and I
couldn't get my car player to repeat it since it was hidden. I'd just
have to keep rewinding (<<) while I was driving. That Mazda factory
player would start songs up at the beginning again if you turned off the
ignition somewhere in the middle, so I never wanted to get out of the
car when I arrived at my destination. I'd just sit there and listen to
Bothered.
ASR has become just another bootleg to me. I really like Anyway, and I
Will Remember, but I never feel like I'm listening to an official
release when it's spinning. Is this a common phenomenon with anyone
else?
