@@@@@Re: Elvis has left Ohio.....

hi.

> how was elvis? hope you had a good time.

he was fantastic! we had a good time. he played a set that lasted about
the normal time for concerts that we've seen lately, then left the stage.
we all clapped and whistled, and he came back for an encore that lasted 3
or 4 more songs. then he left the stage again. we all clapped and
whistled and i thought, "~maybe~ he'll come out again, but i doubt it."
he did and played another 3 song encore. he left the stage again after
playing his plugged in acoustic guitar like it was an electric, just
thrashing away at the thing making it make sounds i didn't think an acoustic
could make, then leaving it propped up against an amp so it kept making
sounds (not feedback in the harsh shrill sense). and "i thought that's it.
he's done." following the claps and whistles, he came out ~again~ for
another 2 or three songs, and then did it again! 4 encores! and not some
piddly-ass one or two song encore set, either. the encore set lasted as
long as the regular concert set! he played for almost 3 hours!

BIG SURPRISE FINISH. if you're gonna go, skip the next paragraph so i
don't ruin it for you. it was cool.

for the very last song, he unplugged all the amps, and had us all hush
(the stupids and the drunks had a hard time cooperating with this concept,
but eventually it was pretty quiet), steve nieve played the grand piano
without amplification, elvis stepped over to stage left, away from the
turned off microphone, and belted out this last song to the audience from
the stage just by the power of his own voice, and the piano. pretty cool!

there were also some sing alongs, and some jokes, and some patter between
songs. there was no opening act, the "band" was just Steve and Elvis,
or Elvis alone on the rare occasion: no rythm section, no "three girls in
sequined dresses singing backup", no nothin'.
A woman in the row behind us and somewhat to our right, said more than a
few times at the end of a song, something like, "oh, wow!" or "oh, my
God!" in that tone that women use to say those same words after having some
really good sex. Monica's brief but apt description was, "that was
f**k*ng incredible"

the only trouble was that there wasn't any room to dance to the old ones,
like Pump it Up or Oliver's Army.

Oh, there was a bad wreck on the section of 77N where they were already
down a lane for night - paving, and that delayed us 15 or 20 minutes...we
thought we might miss some. we got in, got our beer (3 bucks for a
little plastic cup! i hate that! might as well be at an Indians game!)
and found our seats, and in 3 minutes he stepped on stage! we just made
it! yay!

Monica was very polite and didn't spit on the woman in front of her who
talked the whole way through. we swapped seats so she wouldn't be tempted,
and then later it turned out they were'nt in the right seats anyhow, and
they had to move one more seat farther from Monica. it's always fun when M
spits on ppl, but there's always that fear of retaliation in whatever form
it may take. but she behaved well last night.

glad you got your sprinkler system working again, Dan, especially since it
seems no rain is in sight again. Greenhouse #1 or 2? do you even use
the plastic one anymore? Have fun at work. good luck on the Saab pricing.
If you get a Viggen, pick me up! "larger turbocharger than the 9-5" it
said! and the 9-5 was a rapid car! I still have to take them up on the 3-
hour test drive of the wagon. i wanna see how the v/6 turbo runs. and
wagons are so very cool! one day maybe i'll get back up there; they
invited me a while ago when the wagons came in. now i wanna drive that
Viggen! Yum! nice blue, too!

Yesterday i spent some time driving a Yamaha Seca 650. that was a good
time! A guy at work was considering buying it. he didn't. but he lent me
the keys!

Have fun at work, Dan. hope Xiannon enjoys lakeside (and you, too, of
course). Hey, tell Angela not to call people "twits" :-)

see you later,
