I really like to use R.E.M. as the example of the local band that took it
all the way to the top, and compare all my favorite little bands to them.
But I think it's dangerous to do it all the time. I mean, R.E.M. is
R.E.M. and Over the Rhine is Over the Rhine. We look up to R.E.M. the way,
I think, we look up to the guy who wins the lottery-- or maybe a better
analogy is the A-list actor with whom you went to high school. All you
actors out there know that it's fun to dream about the brass ring, but it's
a long shot.

I guess what I mean is that what happened to R.E.M. is not going to happen
to every band that deserves it. Over the Rhine will follow their own path,
and while I expect it to be exciting and surprising overall, I really don't
expect Over the Rhine to mirror R.E.M.'s career.
