more of it.

yeah, you probably remember it too.
& maybe you thought you'd had a soul after all, when she
started singing. cuz maybe she was putting it all out in front of us,
& maybe somehow her voice caught every time we wanted to shriek,
vomit, laugh hysterically, curl up and bawl til the shit was all out
there, on the table. & you kinda feel naked.
well, jack nudged me & mentioned he was proposing to her after
 the show.
frankly, i had the same idea, but i could get past the croaking
that i reckon was my voice.

because there were candles. these ancient, drooling candles
all round the stage. all the rooms in the bar opened up to
there--the band assembled around. karin, linford. long hair. ric
looking like the rock n roll man. linford was playing the bass in
those days--fluid, fluid. maybe it was a part of him?

they were playin for a bar, so the show was heavier, thick.
but karin--she had such passion, i thought maybe i'd found out i
hadn't been breathing up till today.

we just stood there. stood there. we were so immersed, never
really heard, never really caught like that. we didn't even notice we
reeked.

        well, later i noticed.
because when you're down on one knee before a very beautiful
woman, you start to notice the ketchup stains on your pepsi shirt.

i'm not gonna tell you the best part.
        you would never believe me.
