Nah, I think you're just taking the thing out of context.  I don't have
time to post the whole interview, but before this segment (or after, I
don't remember) he talks about how he feels so disjunctured from most
people professing Christian faith today--a feeling I'm pretty familiar
with too.  I think this quote I put out today is just an extension of
that thought stream.

I don't remember anyone saying anything about a song that "had" to be
interpreted *any* way.  Everyone who has spoken on AINiE specifically
made note of their interpretation as being "theirs".  No one is claiming
a controlling interest in truth here.  And I agree, it is a great song.
