Beachland Ballroom Show

Hey, listee lurker here with a quick review of the
Beachland Ballroom show. First of all, that place is a
great venue to see a show. I was really impressed. My
sister and I sat in the middle of the third row or so,
and the sound was fantastic. Susan Enan and Stephen
Delopoulous were great; her voice is even better live,
and he was a lot of fun, very engaging. But they each
just played a few songs and didn't overstay their
welcome.

Then the band took the stage: Linford, Will (on
drums), Rick (bass), Paul (guitar and who knows what
else) and Karin. They all seemed pretty keyed up; this
was the first official night of the tour, after all. I
have a few comments at the bottom, but all I really
have to say is, catch this tour. Over the Rhine has
officially turned their hand to rock and roll.

This was probably the seventh time I've seen the band,
in about as many incarnations/lineups, and I think
this is my favorite thus far -- even though I miss
Jack. The entire lineup is impossibly sexy. Yes, there
was sitar on Spinning. Paul, his myriad of
instruments, and his dreadlocks lent this grungy and
awe-inspiring intensity throughout the whole thing. He
sang backup/harmony, and it sounded great! Karin was
astonishing, as always... Linford grinned like a kid
through the whole show. Rick and Will were great. In
fact, I think Will adds something pretty rock n roll
to OTR, pushes the edge a bit. I liked him a lot. He
looks like he could be Linford's little brother, too.

Lifelong Fling was the first standout of the show,
imo. Karin said afterward, as she was sitting down at
the keyboard, that that was a "makeout voice."

They plugged Paste Magazine at the end, mentioned the
article they did on OTR. Anyone seen that yet?
Apparently it's like a six page article.

And finally, Changes Come was the ultimate standout.
Goosebumps all over.

My sister went with me; it was her first OTR show, and
she said that was "how a concert should be." Right oh.

[and hey! did anyone get pictures? that was a great
stage and set up... I'd love to see photos.]
