PErhaps it is the actual soothing vocal technique that can relieve the strain of the world. Everyone knows there are problems, and every person lives through them daily. What some musicians have the gift to do is to take all the crap the world throws and make a comeback through passionate or perhaps passive music. No one can take away the junk we face daily, so why surround ourselves with fake and happy smiles type music? Otrs lyrics may not make a pretty picture, but they take the genuine struggling possibly religious individuals perspective on a dilutled and dead world. THey make the hell of life seem ok. The music says to me, " i know, I ve been there, and your gonna be ok. Lets sing and contemplate to ease the struggle. " the contemplative and lyrical prose of their stories inspire me to take things day by day and to slow down  and hold still. The forward, lyrical truths are sang in a way that does not trouble me at all. It is a pleasure to float away with a lyricist who  shares my beliefs, but is not a holy roller. Otr states facts and truth of human nature, and I love that they make themselves so vulnerable to us all. they are not afraid to show the failure and "human" side to the public. There lyrical truths blow me away. It is one of kind to see such honest and genuine truth in lyrics from a group that is "christian"

"oTr is definitely a stress reliever. Karin's voice is just so
soothing."

I can't dispute that, but, oTr seems to o out its way to give listeners
stress, as well. USENET's rec.music.christian has always been full of
posts from people saying that they had to be in "just the right mood,"
and that they could only take so much. Maybe they need to surround
themselves with a certain audio MATRIX, that's overwhelmingly positive.

There is a lot of brutal truth, the kind that gives headaches, in oTr
lyrics. If we really, really  love people, they can really, really hurt
us, even passively. Yesterday, I watched both versions of Shadowlands,
ABC's Arkansas Chidren's Hospital I.C.U., and hours of news, unless we
really distance ourselves, the everyday suffering of almost anyone can
get to us.

Both the lyrics, and the music of oTr seem to get into a lot of nooks
and crannies, and there is some tenuous balance attained.
