Re: something stinks in West Egg

Re-read it last summer. a *perfect* summer book, especially for the rare
poolside free time. There's that one unimportant point in the book, a late
afternoon in the first 3 or 4 chapters, when all of the swimmers and
recreants milling about are returning inside to shower and such before the
party ... he captured that time of day and how I'd feel as an observer so
perfectly. Reckless drivers, cheating golfers, you gotta love it. Moral
decay in the jazz age was so much more star-spangled than moral decay at the
turn of this century. Gangsta rap and thudding bass lines have nothing on
Daisy and Jay.
