IMHO, that's the most important thing.  When you're looking at a certain
price range (say, $150-500 for a beginner guitar), you can find a wide
variety.  My first guitar, a Takamine Jasemine, I would have put up
against any guitar twice it's price.  And there are certainly some $500
ones I've played that would have been better off in the "el cheapo"
section.

You develop a bond with your instrument.  It's kinda like the thing in
Harry Potter where the guy is trying to find the right wand for him. 
It's more about feel than anything.
