Forgot to mention, "Jack" is remarking with "there's that word again" on how 
casually he uses a word whose true meaning eludes him. (Love)  His "love" of 
night reflects his loner status.  It also represents a shallow, superficial 
use of the word love, and that disturbs him, as it is the only usage he can 
claim.
