Well, it was a little more than that. It had SOME heart. (It was
overrated, I agree.)

You realize that Disney has ripped off Japan's National Treasure, Osamu
Tezkua, with "the Lion King", which borrowed heavily from his "Jungle
Emperor". Also, studio GAINAX had a hit series in the early ninties,
"Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water", and it served as more than inspiraton for
"Atlantis". "Nadia" itself borrowed from the works of Jules Verne, and
animator Hayao Miyzaki, but it readily acknowledged that fact. As did
Tezuka admit that the "big eyed" look of his characters came from Disney
animation- which is why even today most anime characters have LARGE eyes.
(That, and the fact that it is easier to convey emotion by enlarging the
"windows to the soul.) Disney refused to acknowledge these Japanese
influences, even when asked by the Japanese themselves. Perhaps they are
now on the receiving end of some righteous retributon?

Oh, Walt did the world a favor by creating the first feature-length
animation, but he's long gone, and his company no longer necessarily follows
his vision. Sad.

Talkin' 'bout the Golden Age,

Matt
