i think i understand what you mean. i don't think they'd be appreciated by the mainstream.

<i mean, i do wish them all the success they deserve>

well, i think that "success" is subjective. perhaps they feel they are successful enough, i mean, they're probably either doing this because it's what they love, regardless of how "successful" they become, orthey're making enough of a living that they can continue it without worrying about greater "success". i think it may be a combination of both though. mebbe i'm just crazy or something, i dunno. i guess that if they wanted more than they have, it really is within their reach. someone suggested a while ago that they should put a song in a soundtrack. i think this would work very well, i mean, how many here have heard one song on a soundtrack just to run out and buy two cds, the soundtrack and the band's album? i know i have more than once.

<i would love for many people to hear them and love them as much as i do but....>

i've noticed that it works nicely to do "word of mouth" with otr, i know that i have made a few more fans out of my friends in the past months. after the terrorist attacks last year, i sent my friend a cd with "the world can wait" on it and he was instantly hooked, even though i didn't think he would like them at all.
another idea i've seen my friends do is to burn cds with one track from 9 or 10 different artists, write the names of the songs and the bands on it and leave it in places, coffee shops, along with tips for waitresses, etc. they also put an email address on it so that whoever hears it can contact them.
i know it infringes on the copyrights, so don't flame me about that, it's just an idea to get exposure to bands who may not get it otherwise.

<i have just always viewed OtR as a sacred treasure and i would be scared that the mainstream may unknowingly deplete their beauty.>

i think they know exactly what they're doing, they just don't know the consequences of their actions...take a look at what happened with milli vanilli, for example.

that's my two cents
