Yeah. Considering the film was based on a short story called 'Killings',
I think the final half-hour *could* have worked with the rest of the film,
but director Todd Field did such a good job of making a movie about the
grieving process (like _Ordinary People_, as you say), and made such
effective use of a style that *avoided* direct depictions of violence,
that the final half-hour felt like it was a whole different movie.

Yes, I loved the scene where the two women are looking at photos and just
engaging in small talk, then all of a sudden one of them says something
that inadvertently draws their attention to the other woman's heartbreak.
And I liked the way the two couples sit at the table, and everyone is
interacting with everyone ... *except* for the one couple, where both
individuals interact with the other couple but not with each other.

Heh. And it's so good to see him in a *real* movie now, after seeing him
squander his talents in _Black Knight_.
