I If you'll re-read that paragraph you quoted, you'll notice I said to
practice driving in an *empty* parking lot.  I believe you can be much
better prepared to handle winter conditions if you have practiced soem
driving, and know what you can and cannot do.  You will also learn how to
correct for a skid, and just how much sooner you will need to start
braking when there is snow on the ground.

I'm not advocating wreckless driving here.  I'm saying snow isn't that
bad; it's not the end of driving until the spring thaw.  It requires
precautions and preparations, not to mention a little moderation when it
comes to the the gas pedal.  It's not something to fear, but somethign to
adapt for.  My little story was to point out how most Texan drivers (that
I saw that particular day) were so afraid of what snow could do they
weren't able to drive.
