RE: Buffy

You can get in to Buffy pretty quickly.

Here's the precis.

Buffy is a Slayer (note capitalization) who lives in - to quote
Ghostbusters - Spook Central. Demons are everywhere, and the Buffster's
destiny is to protect the world from the nasties. Spook Central is called
Sunnydale. Weird things happen there.

Buffy has a sister named Dawn. She's your basic teenager who has spent
her life Real Near to Buffy's slaying activities. There's some odd things
about Dawn's origins, but they aren't terribly important right now.

Buffy was trained by a guy named Giles. British and a bit of a warlock,
Giles recently left so that Buffy could start to learn on her own. He
started out as a librarian of the high school and went on to open a magick
store.

Buffy has two friends from high school, Willow and Xander. Willow is a
witch who has been getting very, very powerful as of late (raised Buffy
from the dead, for one) and just lost her lover (a woman named Tara, also
a a witch) as a result of one too many reality-warping spells that
directly affected her. Willow's starting to walk down a path that's
pretty dark, and Tara just douldn't deal with it anymore.

Xander is the everyman-Bruce Campbell kind of fellow. He's a construction
worker and is recently engaged to Anya, the current owner and manager of
the shop. Xander is completely normal in every way, except that he's
engaged to an ex-demon (Anya was a bit surlier in her younger days) and he
hangs out with Buffy. Which makes him weird by association.

Buffy has an old enemy named Spike. Spike's an English vampire that was a
long-time foil for Buffy, but got implanted with a chip [long story] that
keeps him from attacking humans. Since this time, he has slowly been
turned into a somewhat callous ally of Buffy. Spike is infatuated with
Buffy. Buffy is not, but she's been showing signs of turning around that
a bit (the last episode showed them locking lips...)

The entire bunch of good guys tend to call themselves the Scoobies. They
hunt demons and bad guys. They're kickass. And the writing is just witty
enough to make you forget that you're watching someone named Buffy kill
naughty, evil things. Scratch that. The writing is brilliant.

[aside to the Buffy fans - good enough?]
