peanut butter also works for tar, like the kind that they use for paving.
theres an interesting story behind that one.
i'll admit, it don't have much experience with long hair, and peanut butter
is messy too. it's like using something less messy to get something out
thats more messy.

no. no. no.  being one with extremely long hair, and
thus the expert on it (actually not an expert, i don't
know how to get dirt out of it), peanut butter is for
gum, that's it.

i'd say fill the tub, get it and put your head back,
let the water swish, swoosh (like when floating in a
pool and your hair fans out...) and what not and that
should get it out and loosen it from the scalp too.

just a suggestion, never had a mass amount of dirt in
the hair to know if it works or not.
