I'm going to make this brief, if I can. And then I will go away.

My friends in NY/NJ are fine. Their message was brief, I believe b/c they are
involved and busy: one works for the FBI in NYC, the other used to, but is
now works in a similar function for the State of NJ.

Just after I got their email, however, I spoke on the phone to one of my best
friends. (OTR content: Tom joined me at both the Ram's Head (Annapolis,MD)
and Iota (Arlington, VA) shows.)

He lives in VA, probably less than ten miles from the Pentagon, and works in
Georgetown, DC. His father, (I may have mentioned this before) is a retired
Army General who works for FEMA and occasionally at the Pentagon, but he was
in France at the time. He's fine.

The woman Tom took to a co-worker's wedding last weekend, however, was on the
plane out of Dulles that crashed into the Pentagon.

My fifth-grade son is in charge of flag-duty at his elementary school. I hung
around this morning when I dropped him off to see him raise both the American
flag and the Maryland flag to half-mast. That, my friends, would be the
definition of poignant.

I am having quite a lot of trouble working; not so much from a feeling of
futility as an utter lack of concentration. My mind won't stay on my task.

I want to say again how much I appreciate the thoughts and prayers for me and
my friends... and to assure you that other than my indignation at Chris'
comment, my harsh remarks were provoked only by personal uncertainty and
stress.

I DO understand that people react to situations in different ways; please
understand that I tend to be more of a 'thinker' than a 'feeler' and so I am
not particularly eloquent at expressing emotions... nor accustomed to being
ruled by them.

I will come back when this is not so prominent of a topic, perhaps.
Thank you again to those who expressed sympathy and support...
