i wonder about the vagaries of the internet as a
general principle. what was it i was taught... "the
literal is realized, while the virtual is actualized."
the literal realm, be it encountering someone or
meeting someone through an existent friend
(physically) finds its manifestation in the resulting
social interaction in real space. the virtual realm,
on the other hand, in its problematization of "real
space," finds its customary manifestation in an
actualizing "process." what this is i do not really
know - i subscribe to this list because i like the
banter of smart folks and may apply some of those
socialization processes to interactions with my own
"real time" friends, with best ends in mind.

what does this mean apposite to your question of
safety? not sure, but i too am hesitant to assimilate
any virtual activity into my real time reality because
of what i perceive as a difference. quite frankly, i
don't think there are any evil lurkers out there on
the rhine list, but i kinda dig what you're saying.
this community exists beyond my own designs of what it
might be here for: i assume that and take care because
of it simply because that is how i am. i probably
would trust my own survival instincts to hitch to the
west coast before i trusted members on this list to
help get me there. that is not an indictment, but an
indication of how i think.

if any of that makes sense, perhaps you should check
with your doctor.
