Bingo. I mean, heck, my grandparents on my mother's side (the Mennonite
side) were third-cousins, and my uncle married *his* third-cousin --
though it's possible that none of these people were aware of how closely
they were related at the time when they got married.

Turning to recent historical literature, which presumably reflects the
mores of the past well enough even if it *is* fiction, Ashley Wilkes and
Melanie Hamilton were cousins of some sort, were they not?

Then, turning to the Bible, Amram and Jochebed, parents of Moses and
Aaron, were aunt and nephew. And Abraham and Sarah were half-siblings.
