revisionists and generalities

OK, I've stayed out of the debate (and of posting, period), but I must take
exception to this:

>anyway...most evangelical christian parents home-school their kids to
>shelter them from the world and teach from a "god-fearing" point of view...

Generalities, in general, bug me. (pun intended) This one especially sets me
off (you know it must be bad to get me to post). I'm not indignantly
defending Christians. I'm simply asking that we be careful about how we
generalize *anything*.

"Most" evangelical christian parents do not homeschool their kids. I have no
idea what the statistics are, and won't venture a guess for fear of being
horribly wrong.

My parents (and many of those in my extended family...and those of my
community who might be considered evangelical christians...) intentionally
sent us all to public school. They could probably be considered evangelical
christians. The idea was to teach us to think for ourselves, so that no
matter where our information was coming from, we could form intelligent
responses to it. And to avoid isolating us, in any way. They didn't send me
to porno flicks, or get me drunk as a 10-year-old, either. They sought
balance, and for the most part, I think they found it.

(Although there are many who would say I'm not very balanced, now, but
perhaps that's a different kind of balanced? :) )

My rant for the year...
Laura
