I think there's a difference between Ros & Guil are Dead and what's going on
here.  Aside from the fact that Ros&Guil is absolutely brilliant, it's a riff
on the original idea; it breaks new ground.  Secondly, no one is ever going to
claim Ros&Guil should be considered a Shakespeare play.  No one is going to put
Travesties next to the works of Oscar Wilde.  The fan cover album will never be
listed as an OtR album (see, on topic content!  :-)).  The fact that they seem
to intend to push the new novels as *part* of the old series really creeps me
out.  Thirdly, although certainly Stoppard got paid for his work, those plays
had independent artistic motivations and ideas.  It wasn't like somebody said,
"Hey, sales on the bard are down.  We need a new play we can hype."  That's the
saddest thing about this, to me.  The *only* reason these new Narnia books are
being made is to increase profit.  If they contract to a gifted writer, that
might become less important, if that writer can find within him or her the
motivation to tell a good story, but since Lewis closed the book on Narnia, I
*seriously* doubt that's going to happen.  And the odds of them getting a
writer that good are pretty slim.  They would probably have to pay more, and
since the goal of this endeavor is profit, they're going to go as cheap as
possible.

Bah.  The whole thing is going to stink from start to finish.  i hope it
flops in a major way.  Wouldn't it be great if public libraries refused 
to stock the thing?  

How do the Oz books fit in with this?  Did Baum okay all the other
writers who added Oz books to the series, or was that done after his
death?  Anybody know?
