cs lewis and history

hi guys,

i heartily agree. and among my christian friends,
that's the biggest objection (we're even talking
evangelicals :) here). the artistic integrity is very
important. i think the part dealing with christianity
that bothers some christians has to do with what seems
to be an overt goal to secularize what was very
intentionally christian. i think they're frustrated
at the personal nature of the endeavor. either way,
none of it makes sense to me. chris is right: what
they put out will stink. are we really that desperate
creatively as a society? maybe we are.

while we may appeal to pre-edict of milan stuff or
even the role of the church in starting hospitals and
stopping infanticide...i can't think of an immense
number of examples that contradict what the
revisionists are claiming. personally, my offense
with them is the selective attacks and defenses (while
claiming to be objective): but that's what's
problematic about canonical history too.

i don't mind the revisionist history as long as it's
presented as one of the many views of history: plenty
of which have been canonical and just as vile
(depending who you ask exactly). we know it's all
politicized so i would just like to see history taught
with the humble admitance that none of us are
objective and that looking at as many records/history
texts as possible (at least a nice survey from the
many) is beneficial. maybe if we really believed what
we think is true to be true we wouldn't be so
threatened by other voices and takes on what's gone
down so far.
