Moulin & If Nothing Else remix
What's that quote that used to float 'round here... "Writing about music is
like dancing about architecture" or something? I think similar things go
for writing about film. I can barely stomach film reviews until I've seen
the film 'cos they usually don't make sense and I usually disagree anyway.
But that's just me.
Moulin Rouge was a dandy piece of cinema. Stretched the medium into
something different. Ewan was rockin', and Nicole Kidman beat the odds and
made a film in which I didn't think she was a total skank. Marius DeVries
is a musical gangsta for the stuff he did on this film. I'm a fan of
Marius' pop music production anyway though.
Other than the rockin' visual style and clever music, a thing I LOVE about
the film is it totally polarizes the audience. I'd think it'd be really
tough for anyone to walk out of the movie and just be iffy on it. It's a
love/hate thing. And I dig when things force you into an opinion...
I think the "If Nothing Else" remix on the 3 track promo was posted last
year as a web-mp3 on the overtherhine.com website. If that's the same one,
at least. I still haven't obtained a copy of the promo.
