Re: Soundtracks

I posted a list of all the soundtracks in my CD collection to another
listserv a few months ago; you can check it out at:

   http://www.topica.com/lists/dadl-ot/read/message.html?mid=2001001881

Of those, I would say my favorites, perfect or otherwise, grouped by
composer, would include:

   Air -- The Virgin Suicides
David Arnold -- Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough
John Barry -- Moviola, Moviola II: Action and Adventure
Elmer Bernstein -- The Ten Commandments
The Blues Brothers -- The Blues Brothers (with various artists)
Peter Gabriel -- The Last Temptation of Christ (a.k.a. Passion)
   George Gershwin -- Manhattan
Philip Glass -- Anima Mundi, Koyaanisqatsi, Kundun (I also like Solo
Piano, even though it's not a soundtrack per se, because a few tunes
are variations of themes he wrote for The Thin Blue Line)
Jerry Goldsmith -- Star Trek: The Motion Picture
James Horner -- Field of Dreams, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
James Newton Howard -- Snow Falling on Cedars
Maurice Jarre -- Lawrence of Arabia
Trevor Jones -- Dark City (with various artists)
John Lurie -- Get Shorty (with various artists)
   Michael Nyman -- Wonderland
Basil Poledouris -- The Hunt for Red October
David Robbins & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan -- Dead Man Walking: The Score
Robbie Robertson -- Music for the Native Americans
   Miklos Rosza -- Ben-Hur
Ryiuchi Sakamoto -- The Last Emperor (with David Byrne and Cong Su),
      Little Buddha
The Simpsons -- Songs in the Key of Springfield, Go Simpsonic with the
      Simpsons
The Talking Heads -- Stop Making Sense
Vangelis -- Chariots of Fire, 1492: Conquest of Paradise
John Williams -- The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark,
      Schindler's List
various artists -- Amateur, Bullets over Broadway, Trainspotting

I would also count _Fiddler on the Roof_ and _Les Miserables_ (not a film,
admittedly) among my favorite musicals, and _Fantasia_ and _Woody Allen
Classics_ among my favorite collections of classical music used in movies.
