To a point.  It is intriguing that, when he cast the moneychangers out of
the temple, Jesus is reputed to have quoted a passage from Isaiah that
basically contradicts a passage in Deuteronomy, concerning the need to
keep foreigners and eunuchs out of the assembly of Israel.

And what an extraordinarily subversive statement that is!  One wonders if
it would have made any sense to Moses, who once executed a man for
gathering firewood on the Sabbath, as per Numbers 15:32-36.

So do the Synoptics, in their own way.  Luke 8:3 tells us that one of the
women who supported Jesus was the wife of the manager of Herod's
household, for example.  That suggests a connection to the aristocracy.
