well, then let me address the point.

kind of. and kind of not. a quick search on UBL.com (ultimate band list...
lots of musicians) using the keyword 'monk' revealed:

true. not many people will think of 'ric hordinski' when asked about monk.
ric is not overwhelmingly well known at this point. who knows... maybe he
never will be. but the same logic can be applied to james. or miles.

me: hey, have you heard this James album?
you: huh? james who?  james taylor? james brown?
me: no. the band james. how about miles?
you: miles davis? miles griffith?
me: no, the band miles.

monk. miles. james. these are just words.

er, well... apparently the 3 day monks, monk hazel and the faux monks (to
name a very few... see above list) don't really see it that way.

again, kind of and kind of not. it really goes both ways. seems to me that
the phrase 'like a rolling stone' had connotations long before the mick and
the boys arrived. same goes for 'crash like a lead zepplin.' everything
borrows from everything else. there is nothing new under the sun.

funny.. the first thing i said when i heard monk was 'oh man, that's VERY
cool!'
