ooo... the liquid tensions discs are
amazing. i'd definitely recommend
those. as for the dixie dregs, i saw
them open up for dream theater last
feb. i liked mergenstein's drumming,
but the band overall didn't do much
for me. steve's an excellent guitarist
... but something just bugged me their
whole set.

as for planet x, it's derek's jazz-
fusion instrumental "solo" band that
he did after he was kicked out of
dream theater. there are two albums,
and they're a lot different than what
he ever did with dream theater or
alice cooper. i think i like his
playing on the planet x stuff more
than the other stuff he's done.

yeah, i can't vouch for how much like
gentle giant they sound like, as i
don't know much GG... however, i have
4 echolyn cds and i love them all.
"suffocating the bloom" is my favorite,
with "as the world" a close second.
most of their stuff is hard to find,
b/c they got signed to Sony after their
2nd release ("suffocating"), and now
Sony owns the rights to their older
stuff (they were gonna put 'em out, but
didn't). the band can't reissue the
old stuff without Sony's permission.
*that* is utterly ridiculous.

they broke up for a while, and had some
side-projects, but are now back together
in some form or another.

the only Sony disc, "as the world," is
pretty accessible at most shops. the
others are harder to find... i also
hear that they put out a new one last
year, but i have yet to get it yet.
their webpage is http://www.echolyn2000.com/
or something...

(actually, i just looked at the website,
and they are re-issueing "suffocating
the bloom." wow... cool.)
