put them on.

some people live there for entire lifetimes, and know intimately an area.
they have roots than run deep into a community and go to town dinners.
their kids know the other kids, and have never switched schools or rooms
in their house. the yard has a swing set their dad used to swing on when
he was little and came over to play at that house. walking into a store,
someone says ' youmust be john's little girl' even though it's been 30+
years since he lived there, and they've never seen you before. you can
hear stories of your folks and how they raised hell. about their first
job, and how they snuck out to go to a drive-in. the church is full of
old people who nod and tell you you're so cute (but you're taller than
they). the dogs bark all the time. and doors are left unlocked more often.

but. they get stuck in their ways, aren't always welcoming to new people.
kids have a hard time, sometimes fitting in or belonging (didn't go to the
right nursey school, etc) and sometimes the churches get stuck on
themselves.
